Great Weather, Great Cause, Great Day

Great Weather, Great Cause, Great Day

I guess you could say it was a day designed for an optimist; the Optimist Club of Fredericksburg! Donna Aker organized the First Optimist Vendor Fair and thank goodness because with all the rain we had been having during the week I was pretty pessimistic about the weekend but Donna and her optimists made it all right. Ok, enough of the corny jokes but seriously, it was a great day for an event like this.

The event took place at the Rosner YMCA in Spotsylvania, Virginia in a parking lot that was close to several baseball fields and an incoming road of traffic. I thought it was a great location because it was an easy walk for baseball moms and passers by on their way to the farther fields could be tempted as well. The event drew a light but consistent flow of shoppers.

Donna Aker said “the funds raised will go toward youth programs of the city of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties.” Marie Antoinette and I were happy to attend and we thought that it was a great success for their very first event. “I think I will have to get my application in very early for next year because I am sure, many more vendors will want to participate but it was fun being a plank-holder this year” said Marie Antoinette.

We are looking for a few more craft shows to participate at over the summer months but for now, new bead jewelry can be found on our web site and in our Etsy store. See you soon.

Certificate of Participation

We had been watching the weather reports all week and it was looking like it was going to rain all weekend. In fact, a we drove down to Fredericksburg, there was a very heavy downpour along I-95 that really “dampened” our spirits but we went anyway. Luckily it turned into just light misting as we got closer to the Fredericksburg Fairgounds. We planned well to have a booth inside one of the buildings which was a good thing because while we were setting up, there were several more heavy bursts of rain coming down.

The gates opened at 9:30 AM for the 11th Annual Childeren’s Miracle Network Fund Raiser and 6th Annual Craft Fair. Although it was still overcast, people trickled in slowly throughout the day to pass through the craft fair, see live entertainment including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and other musicians. Kids could play  games, go to the petting zoo or ride horses. The car show was a bit rained out as I am sure that car owners were not ready to chance the weather but like my son says “Never trust the weather man”. They probably could have made an appearance, in fact a handful did. There were even a couple of classic fire trucks on hand and one that would give rides around the grounds.

Marie Antoinette was running her $5 off special for any bead jewelery item over $25 again this weekend but the rain seemed to keep a lot of people away from shopping with many of the crafters and entrepreneurs inside the craft fair building which was a shame because it really wasn’t that bad outside. Alas, I hope that the show coordinator raised a lot of funds to help the kids.

Would you do this event again? “Certainly, I can see this being a very well attended event, especially if the weather is nice. I was very proud to participate in this cause.” said Marie Antoinette Gilvey.

Our next show will again be in Fredericksburg at the Optimist Club, in the parking lot on Saturday, May 21st.

We didn’t know what to expect as we pulled into the parking lot at Occooquan Elementary School to set up for their craft fair. The morning was cool as we set up our bead jewelry stand in the back parking lot on Saturday, May 7th.

The customer traffic was a bit slow considering it was such a nice day but it picked up near lunch time. There was plenty of room for more vendors and I think there may be more next year because I can see this event growing rapidly in the future.

“I enjoyed the day and met some very nice customers and made some new friends with other vendors. I was very happy to have had the opportunity to participate in this craft fair and I look forward to doing it again next time.” said Marie Antoinette Gilvey.

Next weekend, May 14th, CorseCrafts will be in Fredericksburg for the Childrens Miracle Network Craft Show.

Saturday, April 30, 2011 we had the pleasure of participating in the 2011 Port Potomac Vendor Fair. Vendors from all over the area joined in on this beautiful and sunny day to show off their products and services ranging from home repair and sales to personal products and even biscottes made especially for mans best friend that looked good enough to dip into my coffee.

“I really enjoyed the day and the location and I would like to return again next year. Thank you Ashley Spencer of Selling Virginia for letting us participate at the last minute.” said Marie Gilvey. Marie ran her special bead jewelry offer of a free item with any purchase which drew a lot of interest.

This was a great location for the event and a great weekend to hold it and we look forward to it being even bigger and with even more shoppers next year.

CorseCrafts next event will be at the Occoquan Elementary School on Saturday, May 7. See you there.
